As a parent, God has given you a weighty responsibility to raise your children, and Cedar Tree always honors the authority that God has given you over your children. At the same time, we have found there are parenting practices at home which correspond with our training at school in a way that greatly increases the likelihood of success in our joint aim of graduating students who are respectful, gracious, and rigorously educated … in the midst of a surrounding culture that tends to seek the opposite.
To this end, we invite parents to partner with us in this great work by making these priorities:
- Remain actively committed to a local congregation of believers in substantive agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith.
- Pray daily for your children and their teachers at school.
- Pray with your children regularly.
- Read the Scriptures with your children regularly.
- Communicate your concerns with others directly, seeking peace.
- Require your children to communicate their concerns with others directly, seeking peace (assisting them as needed).
- Require daily age-appropriate chores.
- As much as possible, limit their access to technology (cell phones, video games, internet).
- Be extremely selective with the books and movies and media your children are exposed to, seeking to promote godly values.
- Provide students with an undistracted opportunity to complete their daily schoolwork at home.
- Live a consistent example of what it means to love God, love others, and love learning.
- Ensure a healthy and nutritious diet.
- Preserve a regular schedule and setting to ensure plenty of sleep.
- Maintain clear behavior standards with positive reinforcement and negative consequences.
