Scrip
What is Scrip? "Scrip" is simply another name for "Gift Certificates or Gift Cards." If you have ever used a gift certificate or card, then you've used Scrip.
The program works by parents, friends, relatives, and others purchasing Scrip through Cedar Tree from the selected merchants provided by the local Scrip Center used by Cedar Tree. These gift certificates are available from many local and national merchants, which you frequent during many of your weekly activities.
How do I use Scrip?
The great part about this program is that stores treat Scrip just like cash. This means that you present them for payment at the register. You can use Scrip to shop for everyday items, pay for dining at restaurants or give as gifts. However you choose to use Scrip, Cedar Tree wins.
How does Cedar Tree make money?
The Scrip Center purchases the Scrip from each merchant in large, bulk quantities at discounted rates. The Scrip Center then makes these gift certificates or cards available to non-profit organizations (such as Cedar Tree) also at a discounted rate. Cedar Tree then sells these same gift certificates/cards to its families and members at face value. The difference between the discount rate and face value is Cedar Tree's profit.
